Shyam Oncology Foundation is a registered charitable foundation dedicated to work in cancer and hereditary childhood blood disorders like Thalassemia.

Mission:

To improve all aspect of cancer care in India including prevention, early detection, treatment and quality of life. We strive to provide Care, Hope and Dignity to cancer patients.

Our core activities include:

  • Prevention and Early Diagnosis :

This is the cornerstone of our activity. Majority of Indians, not just poor but resourceful people as well , are also lacking in knowledge of what causes cancer, early signs of cancer, tests available for early diagnosis of cancer. Also, many myths prevail in society about cancer treatment options. We have been working on this issue since January 2009. Our focus is primarily targeted towards people of low socioeconomic category.

  • Regular Camps for Awareness

We arrange regular camps for awareness of cancer and related issues. A group of people are educated through use of multimedia, and print material in local language. We perform free screening tests for early diagnosis of some cancers. People are also taught what they can do on a regular basis at home for early diagnosis. Specialist doctor and our counselor conduct the camp.

More than 2800 people have attended awareness activity. We have screened more than 2000 women for early diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer. PAP smears are done free of cost. Our efforts have led to diagnosis of more than 80 cancers/suspicious findings in very early stage. Patients are followed up by our counselor to ensure that they complete follow up and treatment.

  • Treatment

Support is provided to patients with highly curable cancers, such as blood cancers in children, and various other cancers especially in early stages, where a patient may not be able to afford complete treatment.

Thalassemia children are also supported, as good care can make them live long and productive life. Two children with thalassemia and two young cancer patients were also supported for curative treatment i.e. Bone Marrow Transplant / Stem Cell Transplant.

  • Counseling for Supportive Care

Counseling by a trained oncology counselor is provided to cancer patients, to improve their quality of life and to improve rate of treatment completion.
